Hi! I’m Anita and on May 22nd 2024 I began my work with the Children’s
Peace Home orphanage in Ghorahi, Nepal where I spent a month working at the
orphanage as well as being a teacher and a teaching assistant at the local
school. Through my time there, the children have taught me many things, among
which one of the most important ones was that no future is pre-determined;
despite their unbelievable hardships, their laughter, faith, and resilience
remind us how strength can transform pain into beauty.
Each morning began with the children doing chores before school, such as
laundry, dishes, and homework. Then we hopped on the school bus with the
children and set out to school, about an hour's drive away. Upon our arrival at
school, we would spent an hour playing sports before the school assembly began.
After the school assembly, where the children sang songs, sang the anthem, and
prayed, we started the walk to class together. I taught math, health, English,
and social studies, tailored lessons to their eagerness to learn about the
World, and encouraged honesty by rewarding effort over cheating during a
spelling test, teaching them that integrity brings rewards.
During my time at the orphanage, after school and on weekends, aside for
playing games and running around and teaching the children , I also worked on
improving their children's life skills. We held story writing competitions,
where the children got to make up a story, present it to others and explain its
moral, drawing competitions and sports competitions, went on a day trip to the
world's largest trident of Shiva.
The children, they have an immense passion for life, many passions and
talents and are incredibly kind and motivated people who are living
inspirations. However, the sad thing is that their lack of aspirations is
clearly present; they are not aware of the possibilities to go further in life,
or expand their knowledge, as they are basically living in the middle of
nowhere, with no way of getting outside information or possibilities. Getting
to know these children and the great talents, kindness, and perseverance they
have, I made it my mission to open their doors to life and make the lives of
these children even better, providing them with a chance at a successful
future, giving them the opportunities which I know they will take advantage
of.
The children study in the tiny prayer room on the floor, often with no
light, in extreme heat, and no furniture. While I was there the heats would go
up to 47°C, and electricity would only rarely come on: posing a great
challenge: they cannot study in the dark, and the heat is unbearable without
the fans.
Therefore, I am now working on the construction of a multi-purpose
building for the orphanage, equipped with AC and solar panels to improve their
comfort and education and opportunities to become more successful. There will
be a study room, a library and a new prayer room, as well as furniture.
Why
should YOU donate?
I kindly ask for your donation; no amount is too little.
- As a portrayal of appreciation: every
